Was intending to post this before the site went down.
It recently dawned on me that stuff might start randomly disappearing from youtube at some stage, so I'm downloading shittons of nightcores.

Some of the videos I have are good to upload to 4chan as-is. Others either have massive file sizes or are too long, will need to figure out what to do with those.

Does anyone remember the Russian anon who shared a huge google drive in these threads?

Didn't realise the timer between posts is so bad now.

If there's any criticsm of my ffmpeg skills then let me know what I can do better.
Current options I'm using are:

I think for videos that I have with visual effects and shit, I'll just replace it with a still image as well, otherwise it will look garbage with the compression.

The Russian guy's drive definitely had more on it, and there were more very old nightcores with pixelated images. Maybe I still have a zip of it somewhere, I will share videos from it if I manage to find it.

Try: -filter:v "fps=1" in ffmpeg if it's just a still image.

If you're starting from a video, you can take one frame and save it as a static image, and extract the audio and process it that way. ffmpeg is very efficient when working with one image and audio.

Consider trying my ffmpeg wrapper script. If your source is video, go with the "--music_mode" flag. And it's even better if given static image + audio.

But to answer your question: yes, I would consider "proper" nightcore to be of eurodance/happy hardcore or similar electronic genres.

Biggest problem is just guitar chords being completely fucked by microtonal pitch shifts that are standard in nightcore. It simply sounds awful, gotta do things like separate the vocals tracks and adjust the instruments separately.

The real question though: how do you recreate this nighcore feeling irl? This isn't really a genre that any venues actually play, right? I always fantasize about some magical party in a small underground room in a city or a room party at a nerd convention or something where everyone is tripping on something and corny techno like this is going and everyone's moshing. This has to be the musical equivalent of yuribait CGDCT, it's like this auditory escapism that makes you feel warm inside. Is it possible to bring this into reality or is this just an online genre?

It's better to use just one frame with a framerate of the video length. From my own cheatsheet:
ffmpeg -r 1/XXX -loop 1 -i image.png -t XXX out.mp4
XXX = runtime in seconds

By the way, don't use ffmpeg for actual videos. Use Premier Pro with the webm plugin instead.

You can achieve a similar effect with -g which sets the group-of-pictures interval. Instead of 1 frame it retains the source fps but uses only one keyframe, which is what takes up most of the space. Rendering a video with one frame can cause seeking issues on some players.
