Oldfag here. I was playing on Xbox 360 in 2008, when kids were still allowed to say Faggot and Retard to one another. The main prevalent, *out there* sub-group/niche community was Bronies. Bronies and Furries, typically pyro mains and typically with cute faggy shit on their loadout. Spoiled upper-middle class social outcasts and weirdos clinging to a show originally made for little girls. It only bothered me at first until I just accepted it. If you go up and talk to a furry, you might wind up talking to a pretty casual, chill person who just likes nerdy autistic shit like trains and synth keyboards and shit.
The fucking trannies were a lot more noticeable after 2016, I feel like. TF2 is a very unique game, not only did it invent Lootboxes (a sad day for gaming indeed) but it invented a lot of cringe weeaboo weirdos in general due to it's irreverent, uncontroversial, cartoony zany wacky cartoon characters and oddly specific use of WWI aesthetic. Old things, cartoony things, unique things, they attract people. They attract weird fetishistic and obsessive people a lot more. The trannies were annoying from the very fucking get-go; The vocal few become not so few. They just HAVE to represent their trannydom in their weapon names & descriptions, cosmetics, bright and obnoxious paints and unusuals, lgbt bullshit on their Conscientious Objector, etc. I got tired of it and started trolling, antagonizing, and votekicking them, but ultimately it's a waste of time trying to fight the onslaught. The zoomers and groomers of the world are here to stay. I still fondly remember hearing "6 billion" and hoping that humanity will grow, and get bigger and better at everything. Now we're at 8.06B, and not enough people can fuck off.
Team Fortress 2 will always be a great game with great nostalgia, fuck the youtubers and competitive players. And in all honesty, it wasn't all that bad of a time capping carts and points alongside weirdos. Godspeed.
