Because things were harder back then, especially execution wise and you would get punished hard for making mistakes so you learned optimal spacing and neutral/footsies play. Newer FGC players don't have as good neutral/footsies as older players do and that's an admitted fact from a newer FGC player like Menard.

I play on controller and have 3triplkes on L and R 2 so just mash the tripple punch, forward and light kick and it will come out.

Wrong. VF1 and VF2 got ported to PC back in the 90s. The series actually lived for a while in Japanese arcades.

VF presentation is not a flashy as other 3d fighters, but gameplay depth still unmatched. Fighting games released in the last 12 months more likely need more gameplay adjustments than VF5 needed before PS4 VF5US release.
