Excluding the black chick and another guy, most of them were simply defensive, and "trying to win" as Jordan pointed out himself, and as they themselves voted each other out almost every single time.
When Jordan tries to establish a specific language before answering "What do you mean by that? I need to know exactly what your question means before I start answering", people convince themselves that he is the one running from the conversation, and not the other person, who is actually the one doing it.
