Just so you know, there's no appreciable difference between 8 and 10 bit unless the source is HDR. And there's no point in using vp8, it's a legacy codec that's been replaced by vp9.

i thought 10bit had better encoding performance even on 8bit sources, or was that only true for h264?
also my iphone can embed the vp8 and vp9 8bit vids but not the vp9 10bit vid (which is what i was testing), so maybe ill just use vp9 8bit encodes from now on

Ah yeah if you come across a webm you can't play, probably some nucklehead thought he was being clever by using vp9 10-bit.
The 2 extra bits are to store HDR data, which is more bit-depth than can be represented on-screen for most displays. It's not necessarily more efficient for standard bit-depth re-encodes.
