I am personally not opposed to having trans friends, or being around trans people, because they don't make me feel uncomfortable or anything, but I think I get called "transphobic" a lot because I think treating a mental condition like gender dysphoria with cosmetic surgery is kinda weird. I can't think of any other kind of condition (that psychologist or therapist might treat) where the recommendation is cosmetic surgery, for an otherwise normal/healthy person.

I see a lot of parallels to people who get plastic surgery for looks, or people who get surgery or take ozemic for obesity but can still say that I kinda don't really get the whole gender debate. I also don't really think about it that often. I'm not trans, and I haven't ever had any close trans friends, and I don't personally feel a strong connection to my gender in the way that people online seem to talk about it. I do feel kinda sad/bad when I hear about the terrible experiences people have had with transitioning, like botched surgeries, etc, and I don't really feel comfortable with the idea of big pharma making thousands/millions of dollars of people for the rest of their lives through prescriptions in general.

regarding kids: I think in the future people will look back at our current era and consider putting kids on hormone blockers or through surgeries as a kind of child abuse. This whole era will probably look pretty barbaric in retrospect. We do a bunch of crazy shit to treat mental health that I think we will find out was probably harmful in the long run.
