Conflicts of interests, dislike of certain parties and willingness to sacrifice other for one's goals, lack of regard for regular, "lesser" people, considering them assets and resources to spend, selfishness, megalomania or merely cold, calculating advantage-oriented thinking.

It's often the attempt of them to do so on a scale too big to handle. Rather than fostering a good change in their closest environment, they seek a global change, often theough clashing means and aforementioned sacrifices for the "good cause". To make their utopias they're willing to sacrifice rights, freedoms and individuals - some because they make their control weaker, some because the individuals are disruptive and not behaving gow they like and beinf ideological enemies of theirs.
But no person can make such sweeping changes even if their idea would be universally supported and good - because you cannot micromanage it all, yet going through intermediaries will corrupt the idea and dilute the resources especially since people under you may have the ideas to go about enacting your will differing from what you intend, or simply finding it proper to twist it a bit to serve their own good as well (whether they believe it fair or are greedy for similar power). And many as noble-minded individuals who want to go about it in different ways will be a danger to each other competitors to be fought, using one's assets.

Add to that that many of the most powerful people with greatest means are often really bad policy-makers - even with great intentions nad best education, they may lack skill, necessary traits of character, perspective representing interests of regular people. In fact, far too many don't even understand issues and struggles of said regular people half as well as they think, seeing it merely as simplified and abstract. Cue "if they don't have bread to eat, let them eat cake".

Example is communism supported by people already living a good life and blind to how that system is absolutely unworkable nightmare for majority of lower classes (they think they fight for) striving for something better but lacking means for. And there will have to be hierarchy, conflict of interests and competition, because both ambitious abd petty people will always exists, hierarchies will always build, people will represent various worth, needs and qualities, want to acquire more - also often stemming from noble pursuits - will guide people. And such systems demand selflessness and sacrifice for the whole. So you end up with a system aspiring to wonderful things but by its naive, inconsiderate of human drives nature forever being cursed to not succeed in practice.

I've come to the same conclusion. It's wild how much natural food we just let rot because it isn't covered in pesticides and wrapped in plastic. In a store, bad food is covered in white mold. I live in a dry area, so fruits can be months old and are still really good to eat dried. I do a lot of foraging when I hike and it opened my eyes to really delicious food. Wild ramps, manzanita, and tons of wildflowers are surprisingly great to munch on. I went online to see where these ingredients are actually being used and low and behold. I only ever see those same ingredient's in luxury and traditional meals.

If you ever get the chance, dried juniper berries and goat milk are literally ancient Fruit Loops. It sounds wild, but you get the toughness of grain and sweetness of fruit. The flavor seeps into the milk if you wait long enough!

It feels like the modern US diet is a copy of a copy of a copy of these really tasty natural foods.

The middle east as we know it is largely a fiction of the 20th century. The Saudis (most influence in the region) were just a random nomadic Bedouin tribe empowered by Britian and many in the region believe they are actually Jewish. Jihad was an invention of Sayyid Qutb in 1950. Israel, meanwhile didnt exist prior to the 20th century so there was also no Palestinian movement and Jerusalem was controlled by the Turks. Iraq ... didnt exist beyond arbitrary British borders. Syria ... France. You basically had a large number of self-autonomous regions and a large amount of ethnic and religious diversity (Yazidis, Kurds, Christians, Sunni, Shia, etc). Conflict existed, but it was mostly regional in nature and limited. So no. The conflict in this region hasn't existed for millenia. If conflict exists here, it originates externally to the Mid East.
