The thing you have to remember with manipulation is there's a degree of dishonesty about it. What are your intentions in resorting to that method, or what is the outcome that you're trying to reach? My wife got a message from a deity to pass on to me in a dream once, I think it was Ares. The next day I found a piece of glass that I was drawn to. If I keep it on my person when doing difficult things and dedicate those acts while holding it (I think it is just a placeholder object to direct my energy), I can sometimes call upon this deity to ask for things.
