The usual "aliens" are beings from the underworld. They're goblins, trolls, dwarfs, gnomes...whatever name people gave them in earlier times. Now they're called aliens. They live in a cave-world, many miles deep underground. The military knows that.

Some time ago I had a dream where I was told aliens are actually time traveling humans. Somewhere in our near future, a global disaster turns Earth uninhabitable, but because we were forewarned, people built a colony on a moon of Neptune, where they survived. They use time travel to try to prevent the disaster, but haven't been successful so far. The event has only been slightly postponed, but not fully avoided. People come back from different time periods, up to 50,000 years from now, and the further from the future they come the less like humans they look (greys, etc). Meanwhile, those nearest to the event look like normal humans, which explains the witness reports saying they saw soldiers and scientists aboard the UFOs.

The few centuries surrounding the disaster are apparently called the "heat era" by those in the know. The future humans blame us people of the past for the disaster and they fucking hate us, having to live their lives in the blackest ass of space where sun is just a little brighter star. All those abduction stories where people were tortured and mutilated were usually carried out by these guys. If you see UFOs that look like they come from this era, you're advised to run without looking back.

Aliens living underground is not a new theory by the way, when I was a kid in the early 90s and we talked about extraterrestrials, my mother often said that our great-grand-mother used to say that these actually came from underground and not from another planet.

You can’t have future technology from time travelers that are angry at us for destroying the planet and also not destroy the planet… Unless this is all a simulation. I can't say I know the science behind it, but I believe time travel isn't simply movement backwards and forwards in a singular linear line, but all the possible outcomes exist simultaneously in a superpositioned state, of which only one is "active". Even if the calamity is prevented, the post-calamity humanity isn't simply erased from existence, because the failed timelines still exist, even if we switch off from their tracks. Our past has already been changed many, many times even before this point, which seems counterintuitive because the edits being implemented should render making them unnecessary (and thus unmake them). But that's not how it works, apparently.
