So therefore, what art IS, in truth, cannot be replicated by A.I.
What truly concerns the working artist today is that their livlihoods (how they make their money from art) is in jeopardy... and that's true IF what you're producing is not truly art but rather something sterile and facile that a machine learning program can not only imitate, but surpass. The artist who produces a meaningful piece and shares it with the world has touched lives and succeeded in his or her task whereas the artist that produces something stimulating to the senses which sells well but lacks soul has succeeded in enriching their own lives but failed in the production of art and failed in the artist's task... enriching the lives of both themselves AND others.

We are caught in the tumult and live out the consequences of not only our OWN mistakes but the mistakes of our parents, our grandparents, and their parents before them to say the least. In truth we are the heirs of an innumerable number of decisions and their consequences made by people who weren't even in our immediate families but merely associates and countrymen. We have the free will and conscious choice to move our bodies and our minds to some task or another but the emotional residue left by cause and effect constantly pulls us in directions we may not will but are nontheless taken.
This, to me, indicates that while free-will may not be an illusion as I can at any time move myself to tak action it is not the entire story. If every fiber of my being is resisting that action and pulling me in another direction am I not then swimming against a current and exhausting myself? Are the odds not unfairly stacked against me? Those who swim against a current and those who are taken up with it arrive at completely different destinations though one is working far harder than the other. The one who bravely struggles against the complex psychological forces taking them where they do not want to go may only be engaging in an exercise of futility... and our culture (that is to say, American culture) recognizes only OUTCOME not process. So what is the individual to make of this? I am a failure because I could not outswim the tide dragging me to ruin and they are a success because they were taken by THEIR tide to prosperity and calm waters? So many who are successful are successful because of the communal work of so many unsung heroes in their families, communities, and countries who placed in them an emotional and physical tide that guided them to success naturally and organically and yet they recieve little credit or recognition while they are alive. We in the States recognize the primacy of the individual and the individual's rights and much emphasis is placed on the overcoming will... and yet, we are not islands, are we? We are members of a community and IT'S will very often supplants our own.
We in the west are headed into conflict with our psychological inversion... the great and ancient nation of China. IT'S experiences and tides led it to very different conclusions about what should be considered important. IT recognizes the primacy of the community. Of the web. The individual is more often than not consigned to bit roles and extra work on the stage of life. What ultimately matters is the production itself, not the actors... they will have to content themselves with being recognized as a contributor, however minor, but will never see applause or adulation that accompanies those with a starring role. Noble, perhaps... but if forced on the unwilling will only ever produce bitterness, resentment, and malcontent. Xi Jingping has convinced himself that it is virtuous to, as he puts it, to "eat bitterness"... but, as it happens, the consumption of bitterness is typical shortlived. Without delay it is spat back out again.

What is life without freedom and the right to self determination? What is life without other people? Do we not see that the extreme polar opposites of 20th century politics are distortions of the complete truth? That Facism and Communism BOTH are anti-human and anti-life? The hypocrisies of what is known in my time as the political right and left are mysteriously lost on them and moderates and centrists are accused of being fence sitters or politically lukewarm or belonging in secret whether admitted or not to one side or the other without ever being recognized as a legitimate political orientation in and of itself.
This is a tragedy for political life because it stratifies through divisive manipulation otherwise sensible and decent human beings into prison camps who's wardens and correctional officers are driven by pathologies unsuitable for the operation of a reasonable and sane society. Their motivations have at their roots destructively erroneous assumptions about the nature of life and human civilization or some deep, unconscious injury or urge that plays them like an instrument and uses them for it's own purposes. Whether there is a devil or not, I cannot say... but it seems the spirit of what can only be called evil is pulling the strings and leading a world desparate and crying out for sanity to be led into INsanity instead... and more damning still, by their own actions.

That one singular life we are all at great pains to avoid discussing because it is the beggining and the end of all things. And strange, also, because various New Age movements which rest on foundations of psychoactive drug use who are at great pains to foment the rise of a new conscious perspective on reality and the underlying unity behind all apparently separate things reject with great revulsion the idea that being an appendage of an eternal soul implies personal responsibility for choices made. These religions and ideologies of various kinds make great pretensions to the necessity of love but have little to say about justice and accountability. Jesus is transformed from being a loving but judgemental God into a timid, all accepting, all recieving "being of light" who came to lead us to the realization of our OWN divinity.

"Let us bask in the glory of love and unity for it's sensations but not delve too deeply into what that implies about ourselves and our emotional and karmic debts." The lost soul is exhausted and weeping and can barely find the strength of character to function in the pursuit of life's basics let alone mount some heroic effort to overcome years and years of depredation, defeat, and disease. Those most in need of love do not receive it (while in fact, recieving it's opposite) and those who are already in the possession of love in great abundance and do not require more have it piled up in the corner of their homes where it gathers cobwebs. Even 1% of that waste could make all the difference in the life of someone in great pain. The same is true of money and material things: In what decent world could this ever be true?
So don't be worried. I am not here to judge you or to help you get better. I am here to let you know that you are not alone and we will remain here in this darkness together until we are both ready to be free of it and to see the light again. I am here to tell you a story that you might find interesting and might identify with. The story of a nobody and his own search for truth, love, and peace.

Truly, at the present time I am looking to perpetuate the very things which caused me pain in the first place. An act of revenge? Or an attempt to communicate? An attempt to communicate how I feel to another so that I can feel empathized with. Is this not the goal of all retribution? To heal some injustice or right some wrong? How can I succeed in that task by imitating, whether knowingly or not, my tormentors?

But I digress โ men and women. The foundations of all human life. The perpetually at odds. The eternally quarreling lovers who desparately need one another and despise eachother for it with a seething intensity that can only come about as a result of ruined trust and the destruction of something innocent and beautiful. Truly, vengeance itself did not have a name before there was love. Love gone wrong, love betrayed, love unreciprocated, love wasted. Love overcome and invalidated by the primal forces of sex and survival which pull and dislocate the members of the soul until one is fully tarnished, jaded and bitter.
The play of two opposites who are yet inextricably drawn to one another and merely two sides of the same coin plays itself out in a myriad of ways. I mentioned Facism and Communism being two sides of the same pessimistic coin but nowhere is the absurdity of hopelessly intertwined and interconnected individuals more apparent than in the tragic love lives of men and women. What outrageous passions! Can't we all just get along since we simply can't seem to get enough of one another? The hatred that is stirred by love gone tragically wrong simply cannot be compared to any other hatred in it's deep and inescapably personal revelations. I reiterate: I don't think ANYTHING can compare to the hatred that is aroused by love betrayed.

The response to these things is feigned indifference. "I don't care!" "I don't believe in love!" "I'm just going to make an enormous amount of money and have everything go my way and have alot of fun and sex. There is no love. People are too flawed!" But the truth is that none of this can replace the loss of love. It is a soothing balm at BEST and an invitation to torment at worst. The secret to overcoming lost love is not in it's outright rejection, but it's replacement. A life without love in some form or another is not worth living โ let us not deceive ourselves.
So if one is to overcome a life of LOST love... or, a life that had no love in it to begin with, one must first identify what love IS and then how one goes about attaining it. But before we go there I would like to expand on my earlier assertion that all of society and civilization rests on the shoulders of the breeding pair and by extention, the family unit. A Government which seeks to divide the family on ideological grounds and which demands all bonds of love and loyalty be forged with the state is most certainly and without doubt a corrupt and malicious one. It takes two to make a child and it takes two to raise a child... the idea that one parent can do it WELL while at war with the other is a fallacious myth propogated by a system which demands your cooperation but does not necessarily feel concern for your well-being. LONG before Governments there was the family and it took BOTH parents and a tightly bound COMMUNITY to survive and raise children. We do not depend on eachother like that anymore. We have infested the planet with overpopulated junk heaps we call living spaces and the result has been the disconcerting feeling that none of it depends on us and that the vast, VAST majority of us are essentially useless and not necessary.

Wife or husband made you mad? Sex getting boring? Divorce them, rip to shreds the lives you intertwined, and replace them. There's billions of us more... Maybe billions to come. Just hop on the app and swipe. This can't be real life. Something inside of us let's us know this wasn't the way life was meant to be lived. Life was never perfect and often a desparate struggle for survival... against the forces of nature, against the other creatures of the earth. But in the end at least we have eachother. Now, many of us don't even have that. A highly social being built for cooperation and connection... isolated. Machined. More insect than person... just a drone in a hive.
So what is love? Love is a feeling but it is also a recognition. A recognition of the self in the other and a deep and personal connection between two resonating hearts which feel and live together. The euphoria of sexual love... the grounded comfort of paternal love... the appreciation and pleasure of platonic love. What it gives to us we treasure and what we give as a result of it can be total. Yet, love makes demands. It seems to me that the very most loving actions in the world can be attributed to those who make personal sacrifices purely for the sake of the betterment of another without any hope of reward... something done in the absence of love's pleasure... something which is on occaision done with great sadness or pain. This is love in it's purest form and it's greatest victory. It dissolves the notion that selfishness is nature's highest aim and something transcendent and beautiful overcoming the demands of even life itself.

This is what is called "true" love. Love that acts on the basis of knowledge even without the accompanying benefits of the feeling. Soldiers who instantly and without thinking throw themselves on to grenades to save their comrades. Presumably they weren't having sex with one another (although they might have been) and the salvation of the many at the expense of the one is in this case the promise of certain death. No reward except pain and nonexistence. Not a very natural thing to do by our current understanding of the world as a selfish gene engine... and yet, there it is. Inexplicable. Insane! Yet nontheless real.
I believe then that loyalty to love and the expression of love requires more than just the feeling of it. It requires action. Action on behalf of the object of one's love. Otherwise, can it be said you ever really loved them? Love, therefore, is NOT merely a sensation brought about by chemicals in the brain but a set of behaviors in response to those chemicals and sensations that continue to operate even in the absence of the euphoric feelings. So to emphasize the sensation of it at the expense of the responsibility of it is to do it a disservice and even to invalidate it's existence entirely. This is why I believe that love necessitates judgement, justice, and condemnation... because if it were not so, then love is not love, but merely sensation and that cannot be true because if that were the case people would not sacrifice themselves for someone else because that sacrifice often involves negative, HORRIFIC sensation. One has to discriminate between loving behavior and unloving behavior. Loving behavior can be considered morally and ethically virtuous and vice-versa because it involves behavior that treats the other as an object worthy of proper treatment based on the integrity and ethical clarity of the provider WITHOUT the precondition of reciprocation.

So since we have identified, then, that love is tied to virtue... moral and ethical virtue... we can then begin to unpack what it is that we need to do in order to attain it. The first order of business is making our lives more moral and less unethical. "Now why in the FUCK would I do that?" You might be asking. "First of all, nobody ELSE seems to want to treat me well... everyone ELSE is getting ahead being unethical... why would I take the first step and start treating people well who treat ME poorly? There is no reward in it!"
Well, I'm going to refute that. It depends on what it is that you want. Do you want love, happiness, peace, and success or do you want money? These things are not necessarily mutually exclusive and you CAN have both... but if your internal compass is pointing towards money at all costs and by any means necessary you will almost certainly not find much love on your journey. Plenty of sex, plenty of highs, and plenty of thrilling experience, without question... but love? Loyalty? Probably not. Love is a central human need whether we choose to acknowledge it or not. What we need to do, therefore, is to conduct ourselves in a morally sound and ethically proper way with every single person we meet WITHOUT the expectation of reward... because that is how we attract love to ourselves. By giving it away even in the face of punishment.
