The name Bob, or more specifically "B.O.B." or "Bob Dobbs" and other variants of that, are used all over different medias to represent some odd jester-like chaotic character. The symbolism behind this individual is very similar to how Roy appears to be, and there are also a lot of "Bobs" in Roy's life. (He was on the Bob Monkhouse show for example).

People create media through imps; you can direct media with them. Try interacting directly with the imps on your tv and see if they can generate some sort of "direct hints that they're interacting back to you through "imp-rovising" responses through anology".
