Sometimes I feel like I might just be able to use "magic" and I start wondering what to use it on. I think of shounen-like destruction first, but I don't want to break anything. It feels to me like magic has experienced its own version of the "God of the Gaps" argument over the years. Originally magic was a very widespread feature that could manage just about anything from healing livestock to finding and punishing a thief, and from stealing milk to fighting witches who steal milk.

Now it's all just manipulation of coincidence, and only acceptable within the realms of the real world. Reality has become too hard and finite for any real fuckery. It's all so disappointing and limiting.

I'm not asking to cast fireball here. But I am wondering why I can't make a Bag of Holding, cast a werelight, or create the ILLUSION of a fireball hurtling at a person's head.

Perhaps you didn't pay attention to this, but this perk also works as a super health perk (so what if I got sick, I can heal it instantly) AND forever young perk, because aging is just oxidative and DNA damage accumulated over decades. Since I can heal myself instantly, I can undo this damage to on a daily or even hourly basis. I'm pretty much biologically immortal (if there is no limit on the uses of this power.)
2nd pick: flying (40) this can get me out of any sticky situation. Also fuck walking and gravity.
3rd pick: super strong (20) And I assume with this, also comes some increased durability to my body. Can't imagine being able to bench press a tank without my bones, joints and muscles not being able to handle such forces.

With these 3 choices I've pretty much become the superman/viltrumite archetype. I can fly at will, have elevated physical capabilities, can recover from anything that doesn't instantly vaporize my whole body and pretty much don't age or get sick. The eternal flying chad.

The idea of "doing magic" is vastly misunderstood by most.
To "do magic", you must understand that baser activities or actions are inherently non-magical. This understanding lets you pursue and finally achieve "magic". All "bad magic" is merely a replication in the opposite direction of the awe and wonder of "doing magic". As a consequence, these baser actions are below or subordinate to higher pursuits or more divine actions.
To explain all of this in a different way, gaining awareness or consciousness means having an understanding that encompasses more perspectives, concepts and effects. You don't just forecast better, you create more fluidly or persuade with less effort. The expansion of awareness accompanies a realization of the connections each of us has to one another; what we have in common, what might build tension between us and what ways we could resolve those conflicts without those baser actions.
So "magic" isn't just Influence (trust me, it definitely is), but much more than that. It's expanded perspective, a more refined personality, enhanced focus, a dynamic comprehension of novel concepts and so much more. Magic is ultimately an ability to leverage and initiate paradoxes that you yourself collapse. I'm not saying linguistic traps, guessing games or some sort of hypnosis. It's equal parts psychological self-hacking as it is creating interesting ways to influence other people, at least the mental side.

To "do magic", you need to combine, marry, or synthesize (loads of layers of symbolism here for a reason) your Inspiration and your Willpower. The combination of what guides or inspires you and your ability to perform, execute or produce will unleash, birth or manifest what you desire, your "child" and, in the end, your True Will or Dharma or whatever you call it. You know, the "reason you came here" or your life's purpose.
If you sit around avoiding what inspires you, you'll end up a drug addict, in an abusive relationship or have a job you hate. If you don't pursue what you need to or avoid the people you're meant to interact with, maybe don't learn what you're supposed to figure out, you'll be sad, lonely and bitter - jaded after all of the disappointment and resentment built up in you, consumed by your Sloth.
