Many non-pilots are under the mistaken impression that filing a flight plan is always necessary, however this actually only applies to IFR flights. If you fly VFR then it's not really necessary to file a flight plan.

But in order to fly over Antarctica, it would be nearly impossible to not encounter IMC and especially at this time of year which is winter in the Southern Hemisphere (and in Antarctica it is very dark right now).

Let's assume that there are no Tartarian ruins or buried spaceships or ice striders or green and abundant meadows. Even without any of those, there's a very good reason for keeping people - at least, people who aren't in the Special Scientist Society - out of Antarctica. Ownership of Antarctic territory is tenuous and weak at the best of times. The treaties allow various powers to maintain a theoretical claim to parts of Antarctica, without the need to devote significant amounts of manpower and resources to developing or defending it. This only works because the competing powers are doing the same thing - as soon as one of them breaks the treaty, everyone else has to match them base for base and mine for mine, to avoid falling hopelessly behind in the race to assert true dominance over the continent. Due to the expense involved in exploiting Antarctic resources (because of course, there will be vast amounts of untapped resources under the ice), the various claimants are content to wait it out and avoid making the first move, hoping that the next decade will bring better technology and more effective methods of resource extraction. If any random nobody can go to Antarctica, sooner or later a group of lunatics will try to settle there, and every claimant will assume, rightly or wrongly, that this group is backed by a rival trying to steal a march on them.
