It is mentioned sometimes that men have much higher rates of psychopathy than women. As per the psychological conditions for psychopathy, a certain percentage of men qualified. The idea that having children would be like eternal life for yourself is just bizarre to me. You are not your children. Your consciousness doesn't continue through your children. Sure, some of your genes pass on to your children, and maybe if you're lucky and a good parent some of your unique values and ideas will pass on to your children. But if you don't believe you have anything like an immortal soul or some other potential for the survival of your consciousness beyond death, then once you're dead, none of what your children do and pass on into the future themselves is going to matter to you, because you'll be dead.
