Those who espouse these views read where God in the Bible provides eternal covenants, prophecies to be fulfilled, etc and take them seriously because God then becomes inconsistent. If a Christian accepts that those covenants and prophecies no longer apply - it makes God into a schizo.

Clearly not. Paul is explicit: the chosen "people" have not changed, but some individuals have been grafted on to that people and some individuals have been cut away. The tree, the root, remains the same, and those eternal promises remain despite the pruning of particular branches.
