It's a giant mind, a universal consciousness that is the source of everything, you can see it on a breakthrough of something like LSD very clearly, it is an open secret and a lot of art is pretty openly about it, though NPCs would rather believe in some religion that magically makes everything OK for them without any real effort, or some imaginary delusion in their schizo mind, then see the real, scary, infinite thing.

They allude to this in the Matrix, when the guy comes to invite Neo to the nightclub, he asks him if he has done mescaline and calls it "the only way to fly". It's a key to your brain, people cope by saying if it was real you wouldn't need something outside of yourself, but you need things from your environment to even continue to live, if you could just do this at will everyone would go insane. If we were just analyzing and interpreting our environment with our brain, there would be no reason for your brain to be able to see this stuff, it's much more impressive to create than this entire reality. Your mind can create things many times more real than this reality, even simulating physical pain at a certain point, fast enough to create years worth of ordered data with no context in material reality, in seconds.

I pretty much think this, except with the qualifier that the exact nature of it is probably unknowable from our current vantage point (these physical bodies) no matter how many drugs we do, and thus things like religion and other shared delusions (egregores), no matter how "NPC-like", might actually be just as real as the source.
I see no contradiction between all those things existing at the same time and being essentially just as real as the source.

You can't bring much of the information back, so you are right that it is unknowable from our current vantage point. But it is possible for your mind to connect to and merge with it for a period of time, and it is basically undeniable to anyone who has gone that far, you can become actively conscious of God and experience infinity.

Is it ever a wonder why you don't get anything in return? Why all the terminals just don't show you anything and seem to run dry all the time?
