>grew up middle of nowhere, nearest neighbor a mile down the road, nothing but pine forest and abandoned farmland partially reclaimed by new growth trees
>abandoned fields are spooky, you'll walk down a trail and all of a sudden enter where there used to be a field and it's all overgrown with small trees but at the edges are the old hedgerow trees that rise above everything else
>exploring the old farmsteads was fun. sometimes I'd find an old stone wall in the middle of dense forest, or an old foundation to a house with no visible road left, junk piles but the trash is all antiques like green glass pharmacy bottles and wrought iron stoves
>one night I wake up out of bed to a loud nose and bright lights in the window
>look outside, there's a black helicopter hovering over the back property, shining a searchlight in the trees
>leave my room and go outside, Dad is talking to some men in uniforms, tells me to go back inside and go back to sleep
>as I go back in I look at the backyard and there are people shining flashlights all over the place
>I try to stay up watching. straight out of a movie, never seen a helicopter in person. fall asleep anyway
>in the morning they're still outside, but no helicopter. there's huge trucks lining the road, and men working around a tractor that's dragging something

>at the time I believed him, but then other stuff happened and I remembered this. he worked on a bunch of classified stuff, some Star Wars projects and maintenance on arecibo only things he ever told me about but I've always been terrible at keeping secrets so doubtless there was more

I used to make drugs in my apartment. I would occasionally go shopping for random labware and whatnot. I started to notice the smell of coffee grounds when I was shopping for glassware. I figured it was because I was near coffee or something. It started to happen at home. I would randomly smell freshly ground coffee out of nowhere. No explanation. It started to make me wonder and then shortly after I got caught. As I was standing outside of my apartment with the cops in handcuffs I saw them drag a coffee maker into my apartment. They told me that's what they do when they know it's going to take a while. It smelled exactly like the coffee I'd been smelling. It never happened again.
