They brought monotheism to the world. Monotheism didnt exist before Judaism. Some people say Zoroastrianism existed a tad earlier but it didnt really spread through the world or take hold.

Thats what "chosen people" refers to in Judaism. It does not refer to anything in regards to /pol/ack 4chan rhetoric. In the Torah it refers to a covenant between God and Jews to bring Judaism to the world. Now 4000 years later you have abrahamic monotheism as the main religion of this planet. I don't believe they were chosen per se. It was a combination of dietary habits and terrain. Let me explain.

If you read Genesis you'll start to see this recurring theme of a subtle antipathy towards the agrarian and a preference for shepherds. Think Isaac. Or Cain vs Abel. Or Jesus himself. Or how Egyptians felt the opposite towards the shepherds.

The ancient Semitic peoples lived as shepherds in the mountainous highlands surrounding modern day Israel. What does this do? Its nutrients. A constant supply of meat, dairy, etc. Combine that with rugged terrain and you get a people who are at peak human capability. They weren't chosen in as much as they evolved.

Agriculture is great in terms of sheer caloric energy. But in terms of nutrients - it's animal products that reign supreme. Imagine trying to get something as essential as choline for brain development without animal products.

As a side this is also why governments push vegetarianism and want you to eat the bugs. Strong enough for labor but not fully developed. Always a shadow of your true human potential.

Anyways, this doesn't fully explain the question as this doesn't happen to every shepherding community. However I do believe it a prerequisite. Probably the nature of needing delayed gratification in order to survive the unpredictable flooding nature of Mesopotamia was another factor. Much like the winter in northern latitudes.
