Not just considered. I joined one in 1998. Was with the Twelve Tribes for over 8 years.
Thought about greentexting my experience but can't be arsed right now.
Long story short, there was an unacceptable (to me) amount of hypocrisy among the leadership, and I discovered that because they invited me into occasional leadership meetings after I'd been there for 5 years or so. I discovered that some of the difficulties certain kinds of members (single mothers especially) had to go through wasn't because those difficulties were unavoidable, but because the leadership didn't give a shit.

I have a cousin who has all the degrees of AMORC, if you consider it a cult. I went to a couple meetings and it was interesting, but it's more a fraternal order type group than anything. Plus it's more west-coast and not very much active in my area.

For me it's a bit of both. I'd join one if I could, but I'd rather start one with the support of others if the available options don't align with my own vision
Personally the kind I'd want to make, simply requires far too many resources to feasibly manifest or be a realistic goal
