Not as well known as Jonestown or Heaven's Gate but just as crazy. Basically

>in the 1990's in Uganada a Catholic splinter group forms centered around strict observence of the Ten Comandments after the founder has a "vision" (hallucination) of the Virgin Mary
>Group grows to several thousand
>Says that 1999 is the end of the world
>members donate vast amounts of money, livestock and property
>1999 comes and goes without the end of the world
>cult leaders realize the gig is up and devise a solution
>say the real date is 3 months from the fake date in the year 2000
>they throw a huge party
>everyone is having fun eating and dancing unaware of the cults solution to their failed prophecy actually was
>this is what investigators find afterwards in addition to similar scenes in different locations
>unlike Jonestown the founder escaped sparking a manhunt

and whats interesting is this cult was founded by a woman a prostitute and alcohol brewer who claimed to see a Marian apparition. Her movement was notable for attracting defrocked members of the Catholic Church. Unlike Jonestown or Heavens gate none of
those who died had any idea what was occuring

>"The whereabouts of the five principal cult leaders Joseph Kibweteere, Joseph Kasapurari, John Kamagara, Dominic Kataribabo, and Credonia Mwerinde are unknown (all having presumably escaped)."

there's also the kenyan forest starvation-mass suicide cult.
africa has many non-animist new religions and pseudo-churches no one talks about much...like the polygamist anti-pope of legio maria

That's really sad because animistic religions are the coolest and most interesting out there, whether one chooses to believe them or not. I'm not saying that they should dedicate their religious views to my interests but this seems like a subversion of culture. Maybe an African person could jump in and tell me that I'm wrong, gotta admit I've never been there, so being wrong about it wouldn't be startling.
Anecdotally, when I was in college there was this old guy from the Ivory Coast (had fled with family during Civil War to France since he was a citizen and then came here) who i became great friends with. He struggled with English because I speak quickly but he taught me a lot of French too to bridge that gap. "You're gonna be the guy who talks this much, you gotta do it in a way I can understand" respectable and reasonable.
Anyway, our best and most interesting conversations were about the "old beliefs" that were taught to him by old people as a child. I like how the tradition there is frequently to name your child after the day of the week on which they were born. I think there are some special designations for more important dates and so on but his name literally translated to "born on wednesday". It's sort of like a horoscope, he said, that the day there is interpreted to have meaning in your personality. I will say this, I looked up what being born on Wednesday entails and it was spot fucking on for him. Super cool guy.

Before the mass suicide part this eerily reminds me of the Palmarian Catholic church.

Heavens gate was also founded by a woman, strangely enough.

they weren't sedevacantists (conclavists, more precisely) IMO, just defrocked priests\heretics---their actions made them schismatic, but not their ideology; they didn't SUS the Pope, nor try to replace him
>say what you will about palmarians, their aesthetic are *chef's kiss*

other Conclavists groups are Little Pebble, the Apostles of Infinite Love, many others super-obscure or may even be hoaxes (like "pope boniface X of Miami")

There's also the EXTREMELY DARK rabbit hole of hoax orthodox groups...I may post about those, if anyone's interested.

Congrats on the quints!
Their aesthetics look pretty cheap to me, desu.
They also remind me of a funny little town in Central Mexico. Though those are still around. Nueva Jerusalen is the name.

>Several reports suggest that Uganda has an average IQ score of 76.42.
>It's important to understand the context and limitations of these numbers
Keep in mind that 76 is the average. The Ugandan National Police still have not found Captain Alex's killers, it is a difficult time for all Ugandans, everywhere.
