I think it may be that everything that's good has a dark side to it, and the dark side is not evil but just dark. Like japanese stuff, Yu gi oh has dark stuff like demons in it, but Japan has holy shrines where buddhas are worshipped. Japanese culture is a good example of this dark shadow of good.

so you have yin and yang. Yin is the black outside with the inner white circle in center. Yang is the white outside with the inner black circle center.

The black sun is referring to the Yang inner black circle. It is Masculine, Active, Order. On the Sephiroth Tree it is the Pillar of Jachin, Force and Will. Nietzche referred to it as the Will to Power. It is kinetic action, logical consciousness (as opposed to the subconscious of feminine Yin).

Yin (which would be the White Sun), is its opposite. Chaos, feminine, passiveness, etc.

Ties into the Pillar of Boaz and Pillar of Jachin. Boaz pillar is topped by a bowl of Water, symbolizing that it is the Yin pillar. Jachin Pillar is topped by a brazier of Fire (the black sun). The first sephiroth of Pillar of Jachin, Chokmah, is also represented astrologically by the Zodiac, shown in pictures as a black globe with star constellations. This black globe (the inner black circle of Yang), and how it also represents Fire (active, creative/destructive) is thus the Black Sun.

Not the same book, but same basic thing from a better known author. He had to slip in a few moral judgement statements to get it published, but largely plays it agnostic which is preferable for a topic like this. The deification of Hitler and the Third Reich is only slightly less annoying than his personification as evil incarnate. This is a decent collection of occult writings that influenced them as well, largely occult treatise written during the Weimar Republic. It's interesting to see what was used and what was discarded. It is a symbol that reflects your own inner world, the power from within. Like every symbol it also depends on how you "charge" it.
