>>40773883>resulted in the development of the language centers of the brain which led to the inner monologueWhile this is sort of close, Jaynes more posited that Consciousness was developed through the use of Metaphor and combining with self-reference. He suggests that Language actually governs Consciousness. Developing the metaphor for Self was a direct result of developing communication methods.
>early humans began perceiving it as a separate entityNot quite right either. They initially atomized the body itself, referring first to segments of their body and their wants, for example. This morphed into subordinate framing, where the Gods channeled concepts through us inside of our language metaphors. After a while, the disillusionment of Deity and the growing awareness of Self altered our lexicon such that references to Deity became replaced with references to Self.
>certain humans were chosen and began to receive the logosSo Jaynes outlines Idol worship, the societal ritual of idols speaking through a conduit and then the subsequent detachment from said idol to the point where they became channeled through a person.
>we've essentially regressed in understandingI hate to break it to everyone, but this isn't the first time this has happened. Jaynes was sort of right, but not completely. We've (nearly) lost Consciousness before. The issue is we're actually regressing again. While there are more geniuses alive today than there ever have been in history, there's also far more useless eaters today than there ever have been in history (not that I completely agree with the sentiment, for the record).
>>40772477Schizophrenia is the development of Consciousness. You have it backwards.
Schizophrenia is closely linked with Synesthesia and "Hyper-Focus". A predisposition to "Hyper-Focus" is a predisposition to Samadhi. Expanded Awareness, the goal of Samadhi, is Enlightenment.
So Schizophrenics are predisposed to Enlightenment - developed Consciousness.
