Do muslims actually pray 5 times a day including having to wake up randomly at 3 or 4am? And do they actually believe this somehow guarantees that they make it to heaven?

Or is it more like once a day or a few times per week?

The ones who take their faith seriously do
They don't think it will automatically get them to heaven, Muslims believe their good and evil works will be weighed against each other.
Afaik anyway

You don’t think this is crazy? Why would God not care about you getting enough sleep? And if you’re busy at work or school he would want you to still do it?

It actually makes sense from an esoteric perspective, in that it prevents you from getting overly lost in Maya if you frequently have to remind yourself of God.It's not really much different from the Gospels' advice to always remain watchful either.

In the grand majority of sunni schools of interpretation, abstaining from prayer automatically renders you a kaffir and banishes you from receiving God's mercy in the afterlife, unless He decides otherwise for one reason or another (which is unlikely). In the days of the caliphate, those who were not praying were tried and punished for heresy if they were adamant about their choices, and would not be get the proper muslim funerary service once they have passed away, as in muslims won't pray for their ''salvation'' and such, and in the most extreme of cases, won't even get buried in a muslim cemetery.
I don't know if the shias, particularly in Twelverism, are as strict about this issue. I do know that they their schools of interpretation have very varied understandings of how to prayer, including how many times it must be done on a daily basis, due to their dismissal of the regular Hadith corpus.

Of course you can sleep right after you have completed your morning prayer and if you are really busy with work, school or traveling then you need to catch up with your prayer later on when you have time i'm not actually supposed to say that but you need to prioritize prayer even when you have other things to do like work or school so you need to do your sallaah (prayer) even while your at work or school or wherever but in a realistic situation or to make things easier i just do it later when i get home

i grew up “muslim”. The way i see it is islamic teachings got way too convoluted to the point where they think praying 5 times a day is more important than basic good human values such as telling the truth, not stealing etc. thats why theyre mostly corrupt from the inside.
> hey i cheated my customers but at least i pray 5 times a day so its all good :)

Realistically given how much effort yheir spiritual pravtices take, even and especially the exoteric ones, there must be a disproportionately large number of blessed and enlightened saints of Islam both in this world and in the next.

It keeps you humble and grounded it's a daily reminder of God you feel a deep spiritual connection it definitely feels different like going to the gym but fir your soul so it's not like a daily errand like washing dishes or something
