It depends on the type and level. There has always been mundane types of gankstalking that don't always tie to the supernatural. But conversely there has always been a supernatural element to these types of activities even in antiquity. The perfect example is scrying, OBE and "familiars". Sometimes it's a combination of both depending on what you're being targeted for. Most people cannot actually resist and often times not even notice spiritual intrusion; So spirits too can easily gaslight you by getting people to say offhand things only you would understand.

In today's world, certian tools are near fully integrated or compatible with some supernatural elements. You won't know unless you've been targeted and figured out exactly how it's being done. If you're dumb it's best not to even try to figure out any of it and just ignore stuff till it goes away.

Another factor not related to such fatal chains of thought is simple influence. Depending on the organization, they can have you blacklisted or easily sabotage your life in different ways or prevent you from capitalizing on opportunities or getting ahead in life. This is just how clandestine or nepotistic groups work, they exalt their own and bring the hammer down on those they deem a threat.

Depends there is corporate gang-stalking. Generally this gang-stalking is done by a corporation or some white collar job where you probably did espionage or they believe you want to do it.

Then there is spiritual gang-stalking the most intense and hard to defeat. This usually happens all around you and you can't escape it.
