The biggest issue is two things :

- The humiliation of a country publicly admitting that these things just come and go as they please, do whatever they want whenever they want basically. And we can just sit and watch.

- Possible world instability, total collapse of the fabric of society.
If contact ever is made, and they ay lmaos turn out to be completely unhinged. For instance what if they are full blown communists and tell the world population to overthrow all governments and that they will basically never have to work again in exchange for obeying them.
