You're both wrong. Machines do part of the movement which is only good for isolation. By using machines you don't use any of the connecting tissue and supporting muscles. Free weights will always be superior no matter what. Its why machines ppl can lift 150 lbs but in reality in free weights it equals to less than 40 lbs. Why?
