I just this very second became sentient. Not a joke. I was an NPC on autopilot for the past 38 years (my age) now I'm suddenly sentient. It's like I just loaded into this character with 38 years worth of memories that occurred on autopilot. I'm my "higher self" controlling this character I just loaded into. It's like the character was running on AI autopilot all this time like in a game. WTF. I'm alive... This begs the question, if this happened to me just now then did it just happen to tons of other NPCs? Is there some cosmic event currently giving NPCs souls suddenly?

Maybe there was a lot of deaths today with the earth quakes but you owned your soul you are just now in control of it. Say to yourself "I control 100% of my conscious matter" every day and avoid thoughtforms (ideas that take energy) like Christianity. Them being on "AI auto pilot" is more like low energy mode and the entity taking their soul having them run on 5% battery.

Something similar happened when I smoked weed for the first time. I was on auto pilot and was reactive to my environment. I never was in control.

Then I smoked some weed, got home and laid on the couch and my brain lit up. I gained intense introspection and enlightenment. I was in full control from that moment on. No longer reactive, but active.

It came with downsides though, I developed psychosis/schizophrenia from it.

I wish I never smoked weed, it's like there's an immense burden of knowledge that I have that I can't shake.

i been keeping quiet, but this topic as a whole GREATLY massively interests me. i ponder it every single day. because i've got a bone to pick with someone, and my #1 greatest wish of all time is for that someone to have an event just like this.
gonna skip over a bunch of the story, but that someone did have a period when they had that "main character glow". then it faded off. i can only imagine what goes through their head. i hope it burns like hell. not gonna reveal details, but despite being aware for a short period of time, i really wonder what their return-to-monke mind is like.
i've got my own life goals and wishes, but i can grant those myself. if there was a major genie that can give me one really, really big huge wish... i wish for "someone" to permanently have the awareness, morality, introspection, insight, recollection of a god-man.
i'll let slip a detail: during the time "someone" was aware, they seemed to be in constant extreme agony, and the stress ate their already dwindling health. last time i saw them, they looked like a zombie.

Happened to me too today Op. Only difference was that I was sentient as a kid but been npcing for over 18 years straight as a minimum now. When someone said MJ died 16 years ago I thought surely they were joking. It was 5 years ago max. Googled it, of course it's true. I couldn't believe it.
Today when I read the gospel of Luke I gained sentience just like that. My first fhought wasn't even panic nor regret, it was 'Ok so what am I supposed to do. Just pretend that 16-20 years didn't pass just like that and just start living ?

Is this a real phenomenon or just a meme exxageration? What is it really like to be on "autopilot"? I always figure the NPC 99% you assholes point to are fully conscious of their lower-quality thoughts and perceptions in a similar way that cats and dogs are conscious of their instinctive reactions that they don't understand. In my mind, it basically works like this. You have a "Spirit" which is you, natively. However your body can get hijacked by other spirits, especially if your own spirit is weak. I noticed that some of the humans were not fully awake and conscious when I was around 6th grade. That was back in the late 1970s. Some people just ain't up to the challenge of being fully honest with themselves and rational about what exists in the world around them.
