I can't comment a whole lot either way, but I use to be friends with a Free Mason. I remember he and another friend would get into debates and the topic of "why secret societies?" came up a couple times/ The friend who was a mason replied "We're not a secret society, we're a society with secrets." Can't say I know much about them other than some guesses, was helped in a HUGE way by someone who at least knew or worked with several Free Masons, maybe is/was one himself, not my beeswax.

Anyway, speaking as a somewhat unusual being who's remembering more and more each day, I get why societies keep secrets. And this isn't to say the Free Masons are good one way or the other, I'm very cautious about who I trust and who I share my secrets with, but, anyway, just wanted to add to the conversation.

I would love to join, but I have run into a few roadblocks.
I don't want to have to swear on any kind of holy book when I join because I am a Pandeist and really do not like the concept of scripture of any kind that says it is the "word of god".
I would only join if I was allowed to be sworn in using a symbol that represents my faith like a golden rectangle or an hourglass instead of any scripture.
I have heard different things from different freemasons. Some say it would not work at all, and some say if the lodge is cool enough they might allow it.
Haven't been able to get a clear concise answer.
I do believe in a 'grand architect', but do not believe that scripture written by humans has any merit. So I technically qualify as believing in a higher power, but I am unsure if my faith would mesh well with masonic teachings.

They believe sodomy, including with chidren, gives them special powers. Their secrets should be more widely discussed so that nobody joins.
