last of the Lynn Picknett pick 3 books.
there was a sort of schism a while back. it used to be that religion, science, government, education, everything was all one. the idea we have today where religion, government, and school should all be kept separate (as much as possible) is in stark contrast to even other countries of today, where they are all the same thing.
it once was that a person could go to the nearest temple to learn how to birth their baby, build a home, plant a garden, the meaning of life, what the laws are, books to read, classes to take, courts for justice, etc... all in one aghora type arrangement. literally a mall, as in the national mall we have in USA. historically however, the "mall" and "aghora" or city center was where all that stuff was, in one place, under one roof.
then the scientists got kicked out and locked up for doing some bullshit with making drugs out of ephedra (ancient meth), poppies (ancient heroin), and other shit. they deserved it, because snake-oil alchemists did that same shit a few centuries before when Galen died. ANYWAY, the story goes that there were revivalists of the old knowledge, sort of proto renaissance and enlightenment types who ended up getting killed.
Giordano Bruno was a well educated, traveled, and respected occultist, alchemist, esotericist, and just overall cool guy to have around that he lived very well on the patronage of very important people, even while in prison. He get invited to a bbq party one time at the Vatican and no one ever heard from him again.
