Meditation techniques
Which one should i go for? or they are not all that different?
I am looking for whatever helps to regulate my nervous system and make me able to control my monkey mind.

sit with your pelvis forward and try to make your upper body upright (imagine a string pulling the top of your head towards the ceiling). relax your neck (allow it to fall forward gently just a bit) and breathe deeply- in through your nose, out through your mouth

make sure you have a comfy place to sit, you don't want to be uncomfortable. because your pelvis is forward, it should be more natural to bring your upper body upright without putting too much strain on your spine

its good to have monkey mind. knowledge is a curse. the more you know the greater the burden your body would have. cats don't have sympathy, which is why their survival rate is astounding. meditation is about eye movement. look wherever your body need to. see? now you know its about eye movement. i have cursed your eye to be open.
would you thank me or not?

My old sensei told us to think about a boat in the center of an ocean with everything frozen in place. No rocking back and forth or waves moving. If you can get it still, youβre pretty good because for most people itβs just going to be a chaotic mess and you have to work up to it. But also that was for martial arts in order to increase focus. I believe zen meditation is different

Focus on your body and regulate it by relaxing your muscles one by one and then by making your breathing deep, slow and prolonged, this will quiet your mind and with time the regulation will become permanent and you will be able to enter deep meditative states of stillness right away. Sit with a straight spine with your chin tucked a bit in, ignore all thoughts and emotions, focus totally on the proprioceptive feeling of your body and regulate it, don't haste it, it takes time for most people, do at least 2 sessions of 30 minues daily. This works 100%, I used to be a person who thought that breathwork and body awareness was useless and that thinking was the only way to achieve things, I was wrong.

Whatever the fuck works for you.
If what gets you into that meditative state is chopping wood, then go do that. If it's shooting at pieces of paper with a .22, then go do that. If it's staring at clouds, do that.

You can be meditative while doing anything yes but if you want to attain the big stillness of your awareness then sitting meditation in the dark is the way.

honestly i just close my eyes and focus on every sound that i can hear. works best for me with regards to calming my nerves... every morning before work i meditate in my local park right as the sun comes up. best shiz ever

Im sure all the other anons are giving you good and proper advice for "Sitting and Forgetting" style meditation.
This kind of meditation is not what will relax your monkey mind.
Do Qigong.
Learn how to stand in Wuji, then learn Ba Duan Jin.
Your monkey mind will relax because you finally gave him a task.

i have to deal with intense pain in intervals and this made me develop my own tech.
you put one hand on your forehead and one on your tummy and you do circles with both while breathing slowly.
this instantly catapults me into a safe state and the pain goes from 10/10 to 2/10.
