Based on the work on Dr Ian Stevenson and his team of researchers, I'd say reincarnation seems likely. To summarise, they spent 20 years examining thousands of cases in which children appear to remember details of their past life. They checked these details against historical records and found many cases in which the details matched and couldn't be explained by coincidence or fraud.

They did find frauds. In India there's a scam in which the perpetrators try to trick rich people into believing their beloved deceased family member has reincarnated into the scammers family. Scammers coach their child on what to say, to pretend to be a rich family's reincarnated grandpa in the hope they'll want to make their reincarnated family member more comfortable. Remember, there are a lot of very desperate people in India, and you don't know how low you'd go to help your child unless you've been in that situation.

Anyway, the main critic of Stevenson seems to be a Christian "scientist" who most likely objects on religious grounds first, and looks for "bias" etc after.

Stevenson's work isn't the only evidence. There are matching reports describing the process of reincarnation across widely different cultures before they had contact with each other. For example, the Inuit believe an expectant mother can dream about meeting the person who intends to be reincarnated into the body of their child. In Thailand they have a word for this kind of dream. The Thai and Inuit could never have compared notes on their beliefs before they developed these ideas. And for people who dismiss reincarnation because it falls outside of their Abrahamic faith: there are/were Christians (Cathars), Muslims (Druze), and Jews (Kabbalists), who believed in reincarnation.

Because of the inconsistency of the suffering on earth and then everything is good after you die. It just doesn't make sense to go from one extreme to the other. I can't even remember where I heard this now, but a few weeks ago there was a video I was watching that claimed earth is like a spiritual prison for an entire galaxy, and that we're forced to live this horrendous existence here on earth over and over again.

I know it's bullshit, but the story did have an interesting angle to it, which was that the positive feelings people get in an NDE, is done on purpose by these aliens or whatever. The 'light' is meant to attract your soul like a moth to a lightbulb so that you can be repurposed into another material body.

The positivity is a trick to convince you to enter the tunnel of light by showing you illusions, and be reincarnated back on earth. Stars are small and close "stargates" leading to many realms and they need to convince you to enter the specific one that puts your soul back on earth and once there you will walk around for a while as a spirit bored out of your mind until you eventually decide to enter the body of an infant and become human again.
