The Book of Mormon is a volume of Holy Scripture that was sealed by God to be revealed in the latter days. It is verily true. It is the Word of God unto the Lamanites, which are the original inhabitants of Africa.

This is an exceedingly fine point that a lot of people would prefer be missed, but the truth is revealed unto all whom the Lord deem it worthy to hear it.

It was founded by a known habitual liar and failed treasure hunter. Who just so happened to lose the pure gold tablets with the holy scripture on them he just so happened to find buried in the middle of nowhere.

I like Mormons, but their theology is flimsy and they expect a lot of suspension of disbelief to accept something like the Book of Nephi as true. Unlike other large religions which have been shaped by thousands of years of stories and myths, Mormonism is hurt by being a creation of the 19th Century in New York. Modern people are obviously going to be skeptical once you introduce divine holy scripture and claim it is on the same level as the Bible.
