You have to realise that all conditioned phenomena are impermanent, unsatysfying and are dependently arisen (do not exist just by themselves). Three charactaristics of existence.

Follow the instructions instead of chasing the desire of ceasing desire or becoming enlightened. When you start to realize, desire dissipate and is replaced with contentment.

Yes, that's the final step and the prime impediment for achieving Jhanas. That's what meditation is for, ceasing to desire cessation.

The teachings are a raft for reaching the other shore, where the teachings no longer become necessary.
The teachings themselves are provisional.

That's why the heart sutra says
>There is no suffering, and no cause of suffering. There is no cessation of suffering, and no path.

One must come to terms with contradictions and what seem like paradoxes to understand buddhism.
If you expect the soteriology to be simple like a faith like Christianity you'll get lost.

That's... literally what happened, he removed even the desire to remove desire, and achieved enlightenment. Self-induced ego death that without drugs in a brain rewrite that makes you one zen ass nigga for life. You've killed your last experience, and are free to know, you're not coming back anymore, and you don't care. You've suicided your being. That's what the removal of desires is, the cycle is a world of pain and this is your means of rest. To abandon all desires is to let the soul retire for good.
