The main character is a grown man who ignores his pretty wife to play with a young little girl on the beach whose mother is busy drinking and he kisses her feet and it freaks her out. Grown men shouldn’t be obsessed with the life of children, the way this ex-soldier with ptsd (something Salinger dealt with upon returning from war)
That stuff was so obvious to me when I read the story. Just as creepy as the way Holden talks about his sister.
