Bad luck, inherited curses from your bloodline. Everything trends downwards over time, some people are at the latter half of a century or two of personal disasters that lead to an inevitable genetic dead end. Some people, the ones who are superficially "normal," will inevitably fuck up in some small way that screws everyone years down the line in a way they couldn't have possibly have predicted. Say your mother gets an abortion for example, and then you're born. That's immediately a curse upon your bloodline, specifically the spirit of rejection. You have to either work it out or die. You don't get to be exempt from it even though it wasn't your fault. You inherit their sins in the same way we inherited Adams. The only people who are somewhat safe from this are outliers who are so successful that their resources can take the blow of whatever personal failure would otherwise end in the downfall of other lineages. So you have one fuck up failure son who's an alcoholic, you can fund his lifestyle until he dies and fix his kids yourself if he had any. For almost everyone else, this isn't feasible.
TL;DR
People are inherently self destructive and life is unfair, the degree to which people are self destructive varies and otherwise innocent people are forced to carry the yoke of their ancestors failures. Some people have ancestors that were/are less stupid than others, these are the "normal people"
