First you have to cope with the stress of its occurrence. Occultism is not enlightenment, it is confronting yourself with serious factors that
influence our daily life. The system that determines this is merciless to you and here you understand for the first time that you are not the center of the universe.

Start with whatever system you're most interested in. If you're into Enochian magick try Enochian Magick in Theory by Frater Yechidah, The Essential Enochian Grimoire by Aaron Leitch. If you're a Castaneda guy read all his books, the books by Florinda Donner, the books by Taisha Abelar.
In the end you can read all you like but to truly 'get' the Occult you need firsthand experience.

Not even wrong actually. Plato and Aristotle helped me get over my atheist phase. Then you learn theres this body of literature from hermetics to egyptian inspired magical papyrii, early alchemists, pythagorean maths and numerology
Op you only need to start

Lol OP literally asks where to begin. It's fair to assume he doesn't even know what in particular he's interested in.

You just wanna read and not practice? Hmm... help us help you by describing what you think about what you think about the occult.

For historical perspective, Hannegraaf's Western Esotericism is a great jumping off point
For practical purposes, SSOTBME by Ramsey Dukes is the absolute best starting point
The Book of Pleasure by Spare is essential. Plenty of other authors are good for inspiration--Crowley, Dion Fortune, Florence Farr, Agrippa, Peter Carroll, Jan Fries, Kenneth Grant, Michael Bertiaux, Phil Hine, Hakim Bey, William S Burroughs, and Genesis P-Orridge will all give you a great time

You really dont want that. But thats gained more from direct practice than reading.
Try looking for buddhist temples near you. Preferrably belonging to vajrayana traditions

do what I do. I read das kapital, the tetragrammaton, sefer yetsirah, talmud, and all those other writings every day. I read them at work too. If I am traveling, I will read them in public places, and even sometimes in a plane. I especially like reading all the jew works.
I write them on toilet paper with my asshole, look at them, see the exact same thing as in those books, then send them off for the toilet jews to read.

Castaneda has Don Juan smoking mushrooms. That was the biggest red flag that the books were 100% bullshit.

Just go to the metephysical section of a used book store and see what catches your attention. Also browse the religion and philosophy sections. Some people will mention the Kyballion. It's definitely not bad, but you can learn the exact same stuff from zen, with about 75% less words. So grab some zen books, just nothing by westerners or anything academic.

Don't read Das Kapital. Marx didn't understand economics or the labor market. Try anything else, even Hayek.
