I don’t see Alan Watts mentioned here often but I’ve always been a big fan of his work. But now there’s numerous AI Alan Watts on the jewtube. Some of the versions are interesting but the majority I’ve found are about being alone and not happy. Do you guys think this trend will get worse? Is it AI twisting his words/perspective or is it being done by glowies/satanists (same shit in my book)?

They pick up random unrelated text (say, they take it from one of Neville Goddard's books) and make the AI read in in Alan's voice.
It's very easy to spot because it remains monotonic and soulless.
But, no, they attach the picture, name and voice to get views because that's what people want to watch, the material itself is unrelated and may contradict Alan's teachings.

The ones being watched and recommended.
And the reason is that it's foolish to use Alan's material because someone may click in and think "oh, I already knew all this", and click out, but if you hear Alan talk about how reality has always been dead and how we revive it as we experience it they may go "oh, I hadn't heard this yet from Alan" and stay, even though he never said something of the sort.

Alan Watts is actually amazing. He probably saved me from huge amounts of anxiety. However, I consider his philosophy like a gateway for something deeper. It's amazing for someone who has only been exposed to the western point of view because of how articulate he is and how simple his message is but he does oversimplify some things and might I say even hold eastern spiritual religions to a sort of higher Standart (bias).

But nonetheless his ideas are great just don't take them too serious otherwise you might become a nihilist.

I just felt like he brought some concepts from eastern religions to the west. It's a fulfilling grift. There's fun new concepts and obviously very foreign words have no semantics to argue over.

I've heard all the criticism of Alan Watts and I've also read a few of his books. My personal conclusion is that anyone who thinks it's slop is most likely just being a contrarian or wahhh it's not western muh greeks and muh Jung type of person. I've never read of anyone actually criticizing any specific thing he's said. Just comments like that one above calling it boomer slop or whatever else but I'd guess that person has no idea what Alan Watts was talking about or maybe even hasn't read a word of his. I mean he doesn't say anything revolutionary and he's basically just trying to frame eastern thought into western words so idk what you can really argue with about that.

We're entering what I dub the "post-truth" age where people will fall into AI-generated sinkholes of false information on YouTube and elsewhere. For now for people like Alan Watts you can watch videos where you actually see him on camera. Soon enough AI will even be able to fake old camera footage and then we will TRULY enter a post-truth era where everyone chooses their own truth.

Yeah, what I mean is that they're not generating it from Alan's works or if they do so it's accidentally, they probably already generated all the text before knowing what they're going to use it for, and then it's like "oh, we need Alan Watts content, let's make his voice read what we have."
It's something to avoid if you want to learn his teachings, if they just created content based on his teachings it'd be fine.

Start listening to it.
Now, tell me from what part of Alan's teachings it comes from, or from where it was generated/continued.
Chances are you can't because it's teachings from Terrence McKenna, Esther Hicks, Eckhart Tolle, Napoleon Hill or Earl Nightingale, (etc.) once you're watched enough material you can recognize the teachings and see how it's not Alan Watts's content.
And that very often they say the complete opposite of what Alan was saying, i.e. getting the universe to conspire behind your back vs. being the universe, living the NOW and accepting it vs. denying it to make it what you want instead, etc.

i thought i watched a good one yesterday, and you are right it AI slop. I use to listen to Watts 5-8 years ago. That vid yesterday I was thinking how much I could relate to everything he was saying taking the words out of my head as I thought them. Na just AI llm trying to yes man the populace.
