>idk why Hinduism didn't absorb his teachings
Because Buddhism's fundamental assumptions contradict or undermine those of Hinduism.
According to Buddhism anyone can become Sangha and Attain; dalit Sangha and women Sangha now have the same clout as Brahmin. There goes the caste system that privileges Brahmin.
In Buddhist doctrine all the gods bowed down to Buddha when he Attained; Hinduism is thus implicitly inferior to Bodhidharma. There goes the privileged position of the Vedas as sacred texts.
Hinduism did kind of subsume the "character" of the Buddha: he explained away is an Avatar of Vishnu, come to deceive the world away from true wisdom in preparation for Kali Yuga. It's politically motivated theology. Completely cynical.
