It was a gradual process for me, I used to be very heavily into other belief systems, I spent several years doing a deep dive into eastern religion and actually practicing it, learned a lot about gnosticism, etc. In the end a combination of meaningful happenings in my life as well as some unidentifiable force that drew me to Christ (which I can only presume to be His grace) made me become Orthodox.

I actually really want to be orthodox, but the closest orthodox church is like 2-3 hours away by car, depending on traffic.
What do I do? I'm already baptized as catholic and there's a catholic church way closer to me, should I just go there for now? Should I just pray alone until I can move closer to an orthodox church?

Contact the Orthodox priest from the nearest church and ask him for guidance.
I think in the meantime it can't hurt to develop a solid prayer life, read the lives of the saints, and so on. Immerse yourself in Orthodoxy basically.

Former catechumen here
It was my experience of living at a number of monasteries for many months that showed me how idiotic Orthodox theology and praxis is.
The most famous monasteries in the US are overloaded with homosexuals, neurotics, and schizophrenics. There isn't a single holy man among them, and the higher ranking older monks would agree to that.
The truth is, Orthodox ecclesiology and historical claims are basically just made up on the spot, and once that thread unravels the whole thing falls apart.

I'm still some kind of Christian, I guess, but no longer interested in any mainstream confession or denomination. Not like that matters.
Anyhow, thanks for coming to my Ted Talk

Would grains of sand dissuade you from knowing Christ? Would you be surprised to be described thusly by another?

Make a day of it and head over there when you know there is a service - as the other anon said, maybe try to contact ahead of time to let them know you want to come, on a day when you can experience what they do properly. Then you can make some contacts and get some guidance while there. You don't have to go regularly if it's so far, but if you haven't been, definitely try once. Let God work, trust God, anon - be led by the Holy Spirit!

I mean no disrespect to Caths and Prots who understand the message of Christ but the Churches obfuscate it and many have been manipulated by the current media.

I agree with you. Nevertheless, I try to keep this quote in mind:

>You ask, will the heterodox be saved... Why do you worry about them? They have a Savior Who desires the salvation of every human being. He will take care of them. You and I should not be burdened with such a concern. Study yourself and your own sins... I will tell you one thing, however: should you, being Orthodox and possessing the Truth in its fullness, betray Orthodoxy and enter a different faith, you will lose your soul forever.
