I (and I suppose you are the same) know there is more to life than meets the eye. What difference does it make if my best friend, my mom or even my son is an NPC ? See this world as a test of your values, and how you treat people, real or not. Would you be an asshole in Westworld ? Then don't be here. Simple as.

Let go Anon and focus on more fruitful shit. We were not meant to wonder about NPCs because they are not a thing to focus on for our growth.

I can't tell you about NPCs, but I can tell you about the backdrop people.
They're generated to fill places in so they don't feel empty.
They vanish into the ether when they aren't being looked at.
You can tell them apart because they're a single occurrence, they'll never be generated again, so, if you see someone you had seen before again, you can know "it's not from the backdrop people", though they could still be an NPC.
