Metaphorical or literal? There are plenty of metaphorical ones running around. When they're allowed to live long enough they eventually figure out how to coexist with the rest of you. I don't think the literal thing exists.

Werewolves were real, just like Vampires. Werewolves are about a transformation of sorts brought on by an altered state of consciousness. The reason they associate so heavily with the Moon is due to the Luna qualities of the human experience. In Astrology, the Moon sign is a description of what you are underneath, inside your head or emotionally (maybe emotional fluctuation - Mania).
Lykaios, Lycanthropes, Lupa, Luna - all of these share a meaningful relationship. When they'd take the drugs (conducted during a full moon), they would transform or become "possessed". In fact, a generous amount of the time we make references toward Anthropomorphism, it comes from Shamanic Journeying.
