How do you anons deal with the nous and mysticism? As good as it would be to find a supernatural "reassurance" for faith above and beyond intelectualizations, from my own experience and hearing stories from others, it carries a near certainty of severe mental illness and demonic attack to enter a true meditative/contemplative state.
What am I supposed to make of this? Can the nous ever be opened safely? I don't feel like the Church condones this kind of faux "contemplative" spirituality but it seems to be so commonplace in Christian circles everywhere. I don't think many realize how easy it is to deceive an untrained or spiritually immature person with false insights through altered states of consciousness.
I want to live in the truth of the Holy Trinity but am on the verge of canning any sort of contemplative tradition as basically worthless and way too easy to get wrong, with pretty terrible consequences.

It's like a tic that tells me to do something and if I doubt it it feels like blaspheming the Holy Spirit. I'm not Christian anymore this is one of the things that turned me off. Like one time he made me do a rain dance and it started to rain when the police came and they let me go because I was holding a Catholic pamphlet and it was raining. That's good advice the worst I can think of is telling me to yell at someone who was out of line but to my mind I was yelling by the Holy Spirit. I actually have a unique perspective on his personality (we used to get along quite well, after about 5 years of constant chastisement) because I embrace his nature that chastises me and disregard all the lovey-dovey crap people peddle about him and what he's really about.

My real concern is not that it's a demon but that it's Voice of God software. But this actually got better with more advanced Buddhist practice because I now have states of mind and trains of thought that are so profound and subtle that they couldn't possibly be simulated.

I feel kind of bad because I got to a stage of Bodhisattvahood where I had to leave him behind, and I'm hoping that the Catholic take on the unforgivable sin is correct, because I have definitely thought and spoken ill of him.

After all the chastisement he actually became a great friend, that's what they say, the Holy Ghost, our Greatest Friend, but I had to move on, and have largely concluded that he is a bit too slovenly and makes people act insane.
