It is the Lord who spoke with me: "See now the completion of my redemption. I have given you a sign of these things, James, my brother. That's concerning the future arrival of Christ, not the prophetic spirit that finds prophets in the wilderness.

As they came into being for my sake,i have come as i am for heaven and the world's sake.

Yes. Matthew is referring to the future return of Christ in that passage you quoted. He is not instructing people to NOT go into the wilderness, or else we wouldn't have John of Patmos / Revelations. He's instructing people not to flock to theatre and false prophets in the wilderness concerning Jesus. That doesn't mean the wilderness isn't still a very sacred place.
