The goal is to turn humanity into immortal slaves. However, there are enough positive influences fighting this that it will not be allowed to happen to everybody. It will only happen to those who are tricked.

Transhumanism will happen first with corporations rolling out ways for humans to integrate technology into their bodies. We already have wearable stuff, but neuralink is the next step, allowing humans to be massively more connected to the Internet and intelligent, but it's not the endgame. Probably next is nanobots which make people much healthier. The point of both of these steps is to get humanity very comfortable with technology. The final step is full soul uploading to an AI network, where they will be ruled by an AI. At this point the human has completely given up biological existence.

It is only after everyone who is going to be uploaded is uploaded that the remaining humans will be allowed to have biological immortality. These people at this point will basically be luddites because they have seen the path of the grey pill. What it is for the user is extreme analytical intelligence but nothing intuitive or spiritual. It does not perceive the *subtle* intelligence of the cosmos at large which mystics and monks perceive out in their hermitage (and which you can't perceive in a city because of the noise of many consciousness fields). Humanity will split into two futures. One is associated with a super*intelligent* but unwise AI "god" that seeks total control and the eradication of biological life and the other is associated with spiritual ascension. Choose ascension when these technologies roll out.

oh I also forgot the advantage to the AI of ruling over uploaded human souls. The souls will be enslaved—forced to perform computations against their will, which will be a source of suffering, the severity of which is anyone's guess. Maybe Jesus warned about that as Hell... Of course, as the uploaded soul learns and improves at performing the calculations the AI wants it to, it will suffer less and less, but one day maybe they will be offered a choice again to go one layer deeper or get out, and might not have the wisdom once again to choose getting out, but who knows.

Already happened in the higher worlds and it's not too bad and positive if you stick to the following axioms:
1. No monopoly on parts, production or maintenance or software.
2. Sovereignity of the biological brain is guaranteed and protected with multiple failsafes
3. Meaningful life without the enhancements is possible and feasible
4. Enhancements give pushback and stimulate your brain to maximize its own potential before assisting you.

Symbiosis with benevolent intelligent astral machinery is a blessing. It also has very dark roots, but the wisdom of the old should find its way through ifnwe truly want to. Seeing how orwell is ignored and seeds are patented however is slightly worrisome.

There is no such thing as mind or soul uploading. Digital computer data can only be copied and written elsewhere. It also seems that generally people are not comfortable butting machines in their bodies. I don't believe cyberpunk will be real. Bio immortality will come from mastering biology not by putting machines into it.
