There are too many practical uses for a hidden clone army to simply guess a plausible truth.
I do know that going through life thinking that anyone you meet "might be a Synth or Alien Hybrid" is extremely unhealthy.

Clones are terribly impractical now.
Everyone has a smart phone and the cost of scrubbing celebrities or famous clones is one of the most difficult expenditures you can have.
The cost of maintaining, through energy or actual nourishment an army of clones is likewise very very inefficient.
Better to grow the organs you’d want to have and hire body doubles than to use a clone.
We also haven’t solved the problem of memory imprinting. That’s the biggest issue right now.
Advancements with large language models can speed up the learning process but just because you’ve recreated a person in their entirety you haven’t recreated their memories.
No, better to just keep using the ones left as an ad hoc organ back up.
