Psychopaths rated lower on average at obeying and believing in the laws of their religions than non-psychopaths, it's just that between trying to fit in and religious propensity being an inheritable trait as well there are still many of them. The being their own gods thing is actually a thing though, the most violent serial killers tend to form connections between the parts of their brains that assess themselves and the parts that measure morality, something normal people's brains don't do. It sounds like it would help but in a biological way, even if they don't know it, they worship themselves as the ultimate source of morality based on their neurons and other cells. Since responding in this thread I've helped a couple individuals grow some psychopath-like brain cells. There weren't many takers. That can be approached in so many ways; the psychopaths brain is less skilled at using the anterior cingulate cortex to manage competing interests in the presence of possible failure, denial, defeat, and the therefore the psychopath's brain becomes frustrated, routing the excess data from the anterior cingulate cortex to the right frontal and prefrontal cortex for quick, conscious goal pursuit, which it does poorly, leading to violent outbursts. This same mechanism happens that way in non-psychopaths as well but it works better.

What I'm getting at is I could plant brain cells in your anterior cingulate cortices and right frontal and prefrontal cortices that would catch paranormal going-ons you don't want and I don't want, and resolve them, stimulating growth in your anterior cingulate cortex and right frontal brain that isn't "human" looking, something more individual, which in turn can lead to interesting changes in how your thoughts affect the thoughts of others. Such an installation can double as a means for you to get frustrated less easy where that wouldn't advantage you, and more easily where it would. Such an installation can also quite simply cause your telekinesis to work a little better, in a way safe for you and me.

Last comment on this matter, but people are bored I see doing it in themselves. We could grow cells in strangers then, destroy some. Murderers for instance, particularly active ones. You can see this when serial killers are being executed; they often keep up the facade and lies and seemingly dont realize the reality that they soon will need to meet their creator. They are often just as uncaring and callous up til their deaths, and at most they regret their position because they only worry about not getting to live anymore. If they truly were God fearing they wouldnt be so careless about their actions or themselves up until death. Its as if deep down they truly feel they are just animals and there is nothing more after death. God fearing people who stray away from the faith often have the opposite. They will still feel deep down God's presence and existence and feel guilt about things even if they dont want to. Id wager many psychopaths have the opposite. I think while one could violate the contract in secret, it would still inevitably have a negative consequence. A secret affair still inevitably results in the risk of STI transmission or a bastard child, a secret murder still wracks a family with the grief of a missing loved one, a secret theft still makes the property owner poorer and so on. When the act does not affect wellbeing, I don't think one could really declare it a violation - a pothead doesn't really violate the social contract by smoking in his bedroom for example, though he might if he stinks up say a church with the stench. Methinks the consequence of the action determines the severity of the violation too, assault is more grevious than vandalism as the effect of assault is more permanent.

In this sense, morality (which we could see as simply not violating the contract) is tied to wellbeing, even if in a more collective sense rather than individual.

Perhaps. I think once we start getting into questions of why people don't worship, we start getting into the theological backgrounds of particular religions. I can see why people wouldn't want to worship the Abrahamic God without them being evil, there are some ethically questionable commands in those books.
