Hollow Knight's and Silksong's stories are completely parables based on Gnosticism (if that's /x/ enough for you).

It's fitting that God games feature this sort of material.
That game's very basic really, another one of Molyneux's unfinished ambitions, so that it even has this level of detail for the year it was released in (2001) is nothing short of a miracle.

What exactly makes FEAR an "/x/ vidya"? I would suspect something more along the lines of Drowned God or LSD / Eastern Mind but what makes FEAR /x/? is it because it's "le schizo core" and supposedly deep?

Because it's all very surface level. There comes a point where things like experiments, conspiracies, psychic stuff, ghosts, etc cross over into reality because they are heavily based into that with cross reference and real-world application / parallel, but before it gets to that point, it's just fiction. Are Superhero comics /x/ because some 16 year old kid gets an innate psychic ability to sense danger after being bitten by a radioactive spider? Is a Jackie Chan movie about a mechanical tuxedo /x/ because he walks on water at one point in the movie? To me its just fantasy / clown logic.

I don't think it gets better than Dark Souls. Not the sequels so much.

-Earthbound: Explores cryptids and parapsychology in a goofy way
-Darkest Dungeon: Lovecraftian style
-Darkwoods: Top down innawoods style
-The Fabulous Fear Machine: Covers myths, legends, memes from the POV of the Illuminati or whatever.
-Lobotomy Corporation: Lets you run a dollar store knock off SCP organization.
-Pathologic: Haven't played it, heard it's good.
-Stalker: Same
-World of Horror: Junji Ito simulator if you're into manga it's pretty tight.
-Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines: A must play.
-Ghost Master: Goofy game where you coach a team of ghosts into haunting people.

That's all that comes to mind from my lifetime of being autistic and fat.
maybe Planescape but it's kind of...D&D....so Idk if I count that.

This and Freespace 2 are very much on the nose in some areas.

Also wouldn't be surprised if the Kilrathi from Wing Commander games are Lyrans or Urmah, but they're viewed as enemies in many of the WC games, since the dev studio is aligned with Orion..

Did you ever play penumbra? I think not same engine, but it came around same time as fear I think. Penumbra and Call of Cthulu (shadow something something) were horror games that I think could have some /x/ themes in them
