One work is the Zohar since a lot of Freemasonry are ideas cited from it. The allegories are in reference to how this world and other dimensions work. Whether it be; karma, alchemy (equal exchange), or transmutation. There are more but I forgot off the top of my head. I believe its beyond just lucifer, I believe at the highest level it is restoring the world to pure light since it is taught that pure light has no form besides when a shadow is casted. Which is our world, a shadow casted behind pure light. Perhaps that is one of the tricks taught by the snake.
So maybe at the highest level they are trying to break God or this reality in order to reshape or control it. Like how satanic abuse victims and military recruits are treated. Broken down and remolded. I dont have all the answers but perhaps this might by a direction to start. You have good questions.
