Thank you for keeping this going, anon; I, for one, really appreciate it.
My mother's birthday is the 31st, and Halloween was always a bit of a big deal, growing up, as you can imagine.
I know I will be losing her soon (relatively speaking), and it makes me want to pursue Halloween more because of it.

All of these stores look EXACTLY the same now, but I remember them being different somehow some 20 years ago when I was 9-10yo. Also the stores didn’t open their doors in fucking August. It was always at the beginning of October. And I think that’s why spooky season felt more novel overall. But now? It’s like Halloween lasts for months and you just get sick of it all that much quicker and can’t wait to see these stores close. That’s when you know you’re old

I learned a long time ago that holidays are best if you just ignore when the stores want you to start spending. Both in terms of when they set up the seasonal departments and when they start tearing it all down. I don't want to do anything Halloween until October 1st and I don't want anything to do with Christmas until December.
If you look to corporations to set your schedule you'll be burned out and ready to pack it all up long before it's actually here.

Yeah, at some point it just like they gave up on the notion.
The overarching story being about the discovery of some cursed tapes that actively fuck with those who watch it, and the general grittier vibe to the individual segments really added a lot. It also felt like they had a reason to be in the found footage style.

Now they just jam the found footage recording style for the sake of it, half of the time where it doesn't make sense and isn't treated like an actual camera man, but some weird meta-documentary that makes no sense.
Then half of the segments are too absurd and silly with no actual substance behind it.
It feels so unnecessarily forced.

7 is really good, it leans back into the survival horror roots more than 4/5/6 did. I did not like Village at all, it felt like it was going back to being a more action heavy game, which is fine, but the control felt too floaty and the level design just didn't do anything for me. It made me want to play 4 again. Or 7. 7 is really good.

We usually decorate the yard with the generic Styrofoam headstones you can get at like Party City and shit, handmade ones are really cool. We'd usually try to touch them up by making them look weathered, spray painting them, etc. One year we got a shitload of hay and shaped it in front of the headstones to make them look more like fresh graves. It came out really well but it was so much fucking work and we don't live in a suburb so it's not like we get trick or treaters.

Honestly, Sleepy Hollow/Tarrytown, NY is really nice in October. Haunted Houses, they pay somebody to dress up as the Headless Horseman to ride around the old colonial era cemetery, and if you come the right weekend you get peak fall color. Maybe it's corny and I'd feel different if I lived there instead of having just visited a few times, but it's fun. Highly recommended. Never done Salem on Halloween but it is a cool spot to visit with all of the historical buildings, museum, and cemeteries.

Biohazard is my first RE game. Never played one before. It's alright, but gets a little slow and boring at times. Plus it makes you feel like a helpless baby at times. Dude can't run when his life depends on it, can hardly shoot a gun accurately at point blank range, etc. Ethan is weaker, slower and less competent than me in real life, which is weird for a video game character.

Just finished watching The Lost Village. Very disappointed unfortunately. Conceptually it was cool. The gist is a big group of people who want to escape their lives and start over join a tour that takes them to an abandoned village called Nanaki, and naturally there are paranormal rumors surrounding it, like the fact that it can only be found sometimes. Spooky stuff starts happening even before they get there, and everything descends into chaos when everyone starts suspecting everyone else of being behind it all.

The first few buildup episodes and the last two, for me, were the best. The middle is just a colossal, meandering nothingburger. There are way too many characters for a 12 episode series (sort of like Angel Beats, which I love but damn it got fucked by budget/production issues), and it's an anime original so there's no source to fall back on. There's no time for character development beyond five minute flashbacks here and there that are crammed into single episodes, so it's very hard to really give a shit about anyone and what they've been through that causes the spoops to manifest. The actual horror visuals are nice, but very sparse, and that just made me wish I was watching something like Dark Gathering, Ghost Hunt, or Mieruko-chan.

The ending is incredibly abrupt even with the last two episodes being pretty strong up to that point. You don't really get any sense of closure beyond a vague "Everything will work out somehow" for the people who decide to stay in the village vs the people who leave to rejoin society. None of the new or repaired relationships (a few characters knew each other beforehand) are really explored at all, and it just left me wishing it had been 24 or even 26 episodes. I will say the OST was nice, simultaneously brooding and emotional.

Unfortunately I can't recommend this one unless you've seen the vast majority of horror anime and are just desperate for something new. You could certainly do worse, but I'd probably give it a 4/10.

I've experienced ghosts in real life

One time when I was younger (was in my teens), me and my family was traveling around Scania. We lived at this old "mansion" from the 1800s. It wasn't very fancy, the stairs were really short could barely walk them, had to duck when going into doors and so on.
They had remade the attic as a living space, which was the biggest and only place for our family to stay. There was a toilet and then there was a storage room. That day was 35c (very unlike Sweden) but in that room, it felt like you went into a freezer. Very strange. Later that night, it was so hot that I was not able to sleep. I took a woven chair which they had in that room and dragged it to the window to sit there and cool off (nice view of the nearby harbor). Eventually went to bed. An hour later or so (half awake) I started hearing rustling noises that sounded like that chair I was sitting in. I kid you not, I saw something sit in it, like a spectral figure that looked like a woman peering out, just like I had. My mother claimed to have heard the noise too and she woke up from it. The next day there was a shared breakfast for the all the guests. We
overheard three young girls, probably in their 20s, how something had picked up things in their room and fallen to the ground, no one touched anything. This confirmed that what I saw was real.

Another time was when I went for my night walks (it's very soothing especially fall or winter). I was near some fields, going along a road lit by streetlights. Under on of the lights a white ball started to form, it looked like thick fog. I looked out at the fields and I didn't see any fog. It was really strange. There is supposedly something called "will'o'wisp" maybe it was something like that?

There was also one time I for sure heard something pace outside my door and in the room next to me, it was like 5 in the morning and it lasted for like an hour. My grandfather passed away a couple months before this happened.

I'm not sure how many of you remember Grizzly Tales for Gruesome Kids, but from what I remember it fits /hal/. Granted they don't take place on Halloween, but they're short and comfy enough.
Here's a playlist if anyone wants to check them out.

You don't like the Hungry House? I love that story lmao, but it's not his best.
Pleasant dreams is his best anthology. It's got Enoch (I'd call it Bloch's best story) basically about a Imp who controls a dude, it's a serial killer story essentially. Really creepy.

I usually start playing them in August or September. I went through Order of Ecclesia and Portrait of Ruin for the first time this year, then replayed Symphony of the Night, and I'm in the process of getting through Harmony of Dissonance, but it's not grabbing me the way the others did.
Granted, I wasn't crazy about OoE either, but at least the combat and rune system was unique enough to keep my attention. Plus Shanoa is hot.

Hellraiser or Event Horizon if you think she'd be able to handle the gore. I'd say The Thing too but that's not really paranormal in the strictest sense. Maybe Prince of Darkness or In the Mouth of Madness.

The Frighteners is more of a comedy but super good.
The Conjuring and Insidious are normie picks but serve as a good intro.
The Amityville Horror, The Shining, Poltergeist (1982) and it's sequels, Burnt Offerings, and The Exorcist are some classics.

Evening /hal/.

I bring to you a boring post (and let's hope I won't have to split it in multiple posts).
Last year, or perhaps the previous one, I mentioned in one of these threads the apparently haunted house in my neighborhood, and if memory serves, I said I would take a photo of it, so here it is.
Yes, this is way overdue, the person that was interested might not even be here anymore, but I passed by it the other day and thought "well, better late than never".

>But Anon, why do you think it's haunted?
I live in this neighborhood for 30 years now, and have never seen anyone living there for more than a month, it went for so long trading hands that the current owner just uses it as a garage. Now, I don't believe the supernatural myself, but it's certainly a situation.

>Have you ever gone inside?
No. When I was 10 or so, the wall at the end of the corridor (do corridors on the outside have a specific name?) had a door, two friends of mine jumped the fence and went back there, one of them kicked the door, then they got scared and bolted. Nothing happened, of course, when the lead one kicked the door, the one behind got startled and ran, and seeing the other one running away probably prompted the kicker to run too. As you can see, there's no door there anymore, but unfortunately I can't say when that happened, if it was weeks, months or even years after that day.

>Bonus
I have seen ghost orbs from the window once, but I'm sure that "memory" was a dream.
