Do you think they were protecting Polanski, or something else. The U.S. tried very hard to prosecute Polanski, and
Polanski continues to deal with lawsuits even as of this past year. Also, Polanski was kicked out of the motion picture academy. It seems like Bugliosi (and by extension the U.S. government) wanted to put Polanski under their thumb, but France protected him. It seems to me something larger was at play.

But why? O'Neill's book is really good. It uncovers a lot. Particularly the HAFMC stuff with Jolly West. But what could possibly get multiple police and judges on the same page through multiple jurisdictions in Northern and Southern California to all turn a blind eye to the Manson Family's criminal activity? And how does a dude born to a mom that was a convict in West Virginia end up hanging out with Doris Day's son (Melcher)? Sure, the CIA was involved, but I doubt this was the end state they envisioned. Whatever it was that brought all of these different people together for this happening was paranormal AF.
